About

Welcome to Joann A. Alexie Memorial School (JAAMS), in Atmautluak.  Atmautluak is a tundra village, located in the southwest region of Alaska, about 18 miles northwest of Bethel. Our community is home of the Yup’ik Eskimo. We love to hunt, fish, and gather foods such as berries and bird eggs. We have a local store, post office, washeteria, bingo hall, Traditional Council, YKHC Health Clinic, a Moravian Church, and a Russian-Orthodox Church.

Our school of approximately 118 students is served by 9 teachers.  We celebrate with Cultural Days, teaching students cultural values and traditions. We also celebrate with Spirit Assemblies, where we have team races. We love the sports of Cross Country, Mix-Six Volleyball, Basketball, and Native Youth Olympics. In August 2022, we moved into our new school. We absolutely love it! It is a top-notch facility for our students and staff. JAAMS is the Home of the Falcons!
